God & Son

This Wednesday, September 7th we will be kicking off our Mid-Week Celebration for September with our series, “Jesus: Savior & King”.  This past Sunday marked the official beginning to this concept as the Journey I & II Sunday School classes learned about Jesus being our Life Giver.  John 1:4 says, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

Come join us Wednesday as we survey the relationship between God the Father and God the Son.  The scriptures we will focus on will be Hebrews 1:1-4.  What a great way to kick off September!  Stay tuned as we worship together, seek God, and let the whole world know that Jesus is our Savior and King!

Surry Baptist Missions Week 2011

Hey everyone!  Only one week removed from Student Life Camp in Ohio, we are about to get local and serve Surry County in the name of Jesus!  My prayer for those who are attending is that we would be as bold as Peter and John in Acts 4.  They were told to go and never speak the name of Jesus again.  Let’s do the opposite!  Let us go out this coming week and serve with a boldness and compassion for those who are lost without Christ.  If you are attending SBA Camp, please remember that this year the camp is at Salem Baptist.  Registration begins at 5:00 PM this coming Sunday.

Student Life Mission Camp Prep Meeting

There will be a very important informational meeting on Wednesday, July 6th for those attending Student Life Camp.  This meeting is for all students and parents attending the camp.  We will be going over last-minute details and finalizing all forms and finances due.  If you have any questions, please contact Jay Worsley at 648-3203.

The Gospel is Central

1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the GOSPEL I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this GOSPEL you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.   – 1st Corinthians 15:1-2

The GOSPEL is everything. The GOSPEL is foundational.  The GOSPEL is the very substance that holds our lives together.  Paul said it best in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the GOSPEL, because it is the pow er of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” (NIV)

The GOSPEL is centered around the Messiah, the Cornerstone, Beginning and the End.  Therefore, everything that we are about, everything that we do should be centered around the GOSPEL.  I believe I have heard it best in from some of the leaders in our Southern Baptist Convention.  The GOSPEL has implications on every aspect of our lives.  From waking up in the morning, to going through the work week, enjoying the weekend, or laying our head down at night.  The GOSPEL has implications on every stage of our lives.

Sometimes I have wondered why a lot of Christian music, even some of our hymns focus solely on the tangible rewards of heaven.  Some songs portray golden streets, mansions, and even loved ones as our motivation for going to Heaven.  Why do I long for heaven, for eternity in the sweet by and by?  It is because Jesus is there.  Yes, I am so ready to bow before Him, the King, and worship Him for eternity.  The GOSPEL is my motivation for getting to heaven.

Someone once asked the question, “When you think of heaven, ponder the golden streets, the mansions, the “Bible Heroes”, and loved ones that have gone before, and you were to find out Jesus wasn’t going to be there, would you still want to go.”  What an interesting question!  Is our life focused on the One who set us free by giving His life in our place on the cross?  Or are we merely infatuated with the tangible externals of church and religion?

Hopefully your life revolves around THE GOSPEL.

Lock-in Friday, March 18th!

Yes, yes, hear ye, hear ye, we are having a lock-in!  It will probably turn into someone being locked up, but we’ll give it a whirl anyway.  We are glad to have as our guests, Haymore Baptist’s youth, and anyone else who will register and come!  The lock-in will be Friday, March 18th starting at 8:00 pm.  It will obviously last all night, and everyone will need to be picked up around 7:00 am Saturday morning.  If you would like to come or like more information, please give me a shout!  Let’s do this.

Journey D-Group

Just a note to say thanks to all the students that showed up last Sunday evening to our first installment of “Journey D-Group”.  The “d” in D-Group is short for “discipleship”.  We are going to take this opportunity to use our Sunday evening time together to go a little deeper.  We really need to get a foundation built underneath those attending so that our youth ministry can grow deeper as it grows wider.

We are basing our 10 weeks together on 1st Timothy 4:7 which challenges us to “Exercise Ourselves unto Godliness!”  Week 1 was a synopsis of where we are headed, coupled with a good ‘ol push-up contest (great job Josiah and David…i think).  Nevertheless,we are jumping in again next Sunday, February 27th at 6:00 pm to find out where we are in Christ.  Then we can see where we need to go and how far it will take to get there.

I must say Sunday night “D-Group” is going to be special.  There will be some pretty awesome incentives for being a part of it.  So, don’t wait and miss out!  Come check us out for Journey D-Group, this Sunday @ 6:00 pm!

Are you ready for the revolution?

Hey students.  Are you ready for the revolution?  Starting Wednesday, February 16th, we will be starting a 3-week series talking about how to become a revolutionary citizen of this world.  It is not enough just to get by anymore.  We have to rise up and become revolutionaries for the Gospel.  A revolutionary is a person who either actively participates in, or advocates revolution.  Also, when used as an adjective, the term revolutionary refers to something that has a major, sudden impact on society or on some aspect of human endeavour.  Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the impact John the Baptist and Paul had on their culture for the Gospel.  Finally we will look at how Jesus, the ultimate Revolutionary, had a major sudden eternal impact on all of history.  Join us as we see what it will take for us to become effective revolutionaries.

Welcome to the journey…

Hey everyone!  Welcome to all students, parents and anyone else looking for information about the student ministry at Salem Baptist Church in Dobson, NC.  We are a ministry dedicated for the glory of our great God and His fame.  Stay tuned to see what we are doing to further the Kingdom of God and His great name.
